The young metropolitan poet published in the Vossische Zeitung or the Berliner Tageblatt in the early 1930s. She quickly achieved literary fame and belonged to the circle of creative bohemians in Berlin who had chosen the "Romanisches Café" as their meeting place. Painters, actors and literary figures such as Tucholsky, Ringelnatz, Klabund, Else Lasker-Schüler, Erich Kästner and Walter Mehring sat here, wrote poetry, discussed and dreamed of a better world. (maschakaleko.com).

The Ensemble Megaphone takes Kaléko's poems as a starting point for poetic music-theatrical miniatures with improvisations, music from eight centuries from Europe and the Orient (Iran, Sufi music...) and the interactive possibility for the audience to name a Mascha Kaléko favourite poem in the week before the performance, which can then become part of the programme. What film reflects this time better than People on Sunday! This semi-documentary feature film is considered one of the most important works of the late silent era and is certainly one of the most famous representatives of the "New Objectivity".

"It was a risk to make a silent film that doesn't want any stars, that does almost without intertitles and captures the life of a big city in a wild collage. There are no studios, no repros, no sets here. Pure cinema! Life on a Sunday in Berlin - suburban trains whiz through the picture in criss-cross fashion, cars roll along asphalt roads that stretch through the city like wide ribbons, the light of the day is reflected in puddles, in windows, on the surface of the water. ... It is the skill of director Robert Siodmak and cameraman Eugen Schüfftan to condense this picture revue in such a way that the viewers are drawn into this "Sunday in Berlin" - into the cinematic rhythm, into its depth and emotionality. Billie Wilder, Edgar J. Ulmer, Schüfftan and Siodmak became world famous overnight".
(Falk Schwarz, Filmportal.de)

In case of rain, the event will take place in the Künstlerhaus.

Performances

Fri. 28.8.2020, 8:30 pm

Sat. 29.8.2020, 8:30 pm

Admission: 12 €/10 € erm.

Ticket reservation and advance booking: 0511/168-45522,
KokiKasse@Hannover-Stadt.de
Monday -
