What does radicalism sound like when it becomes quiet? When it asserts itself not through volume, but through reduction and pauses between the notes?
The concert „Radical Freedom“ by Ensemble Megaphon invites you to experience these questions in a sensual way. Eliane Radigue's works open up fragile, almost timeless sound spaces: microtonal layers that slowly shift and demand an intensive form of listening. Radical here is the reduction - the concentrated listening to minimal changes.
In her conceptual score, Annette Schlünz translates texts by the French poet Christophe Tarkos into a floating language of sound. Language becomes sound, meaning becomes movement - a poetic space is created between voice and music.
With the „Persian Miniatures”, Ehsan Ebrahimi introduces the santoor and modes of the maqam system. Traditional tone colours and modal structures unfold as lively, finely differentiated textures that open up resonance spaces. Finally, Olga Neuwirth sets a counterpoint with expressive energy: she explores extreme instrumental boundaries and takes the audience to the edges of the audible - intensely, physically, directly.
Following the concert, a discussion moderated by Bernd Schumann will provide space for dialogue with the audience.
